As has become an annual tradition for more than a decade, Apple took over their homepage today with a memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In prior years it brushed past me as a nice thing to do at best, and corporate pandering at worst. After the inaction and silence from Apple the past year in the face of authoritarian overrule, it is now painfully insulting to see the quote, “We honor Dr. King and reflect upon his life and legacy” plastered on their website. I strongly believe if Dr. MLK, Jr were alive today he would be the loudest voice calling out Apple for staying quiet as our country’s freedoms are stripped away.

Not only staying quiet, but enabling. Tim Cook presenting our tyrant with a 24 karat gold and glass trophy as a gift. No action being taken to pull Elon Musk’s sexually deviant chat bot Grok from the App Store, even as the company professes third party app stores are a danger to their customers because they won’t ensure a safe environment. Immigrants being denigrated as they contribute to the engineeering and design teams at Apple that allow the company to claim their top spot as one of the most successful makers in history.

Some self-reflection is far past due for a company with a bank account stuffed full of fuck you money.
